Demand for Justice Intensifies in Jhajjar Account Officer Suicide Case, Family Gives Haryana Government One-Month Ultimatum

The family of Balwant Singh, an Accounts Officer from Jhajjar's Mundahera village, has given the Haryana Government one month to act against officials accused of mentally harassing him before his suicide at the Haryana Secretariat. A 31-member committee has demanded a high-level inquiry, Rs 1 crore compensation, arrests, and a government job for his wife.

The family of Balwant Singh, an Accounts Officer from Mundahera village in Jhajjar district who died by suicide, has intensified its demand for justice and issued a one-month ultimatum to the Haryana Government to take action against those allegedly responsible for his death.

A 31-member committee constituted during a village council meeting reached Jhajjar on Monday to meet district authorities and submit a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. The delegation included Yadav Sabha Jhajjar District President Ram Avtar Yadav, former president Virender Daroga, and the deceased officer's father. The memorandum was handed over to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jhajjar.

In the memorandum, the committee warned that if the government fails to take action against the accused and does not ensure justice for the bereaved family within one month, a large-scale public agitation will be launched.

The committee was formed during a Mahapanchayat held on Sunday in Mundahera village. The meeting, which continued for several hours, passed a formal resolution outlining a series of demands aimed at securing justice for Balwant Singh and support for his family.

Among the key demands were the constitution of a high-level inquiry committee, compensation of at least Rs 1 crore to the family, immediate arrest of those accused of driving Balwant Singh to suicide, permanent government employment for his wife on the lines of the appointment granted to the wife of Sandeep Lathar, financial assistance for the dependents, and all other benefits connected to the case.

Providing details of the matter, Yadav Sabha Jhajjar District President Ram Avtar Yadav said that Balwant Singh was serving as an Accounts Officer in HPGCL Bank and was widely regarded as an honest, diligent, and highly capable officer.

He stated that Balwant Singh had formally alerted authorities by email regarding the Rs 25 crore scam that recently surfaced in the same bank. According to the committee, he played a decisive role in exposing the alleged fraud.

During the investigation and related proceedings, Balwant Singh was neither arrested nor suspended from his post. Subsequently, the Anti-Corruption Bureau reportedly gave him a clean chit.

Ram Avtar Yadav alleged that this exoneration was not accepted by certain bank officials allegedly involved in the scam, who then subjected Balwant Singh to continuous mental harassment and attempted to implicate him in false cases.

The allegations have been levelled against Director Amit Diwan, Accounts Officer Ashish Gogiya, and Chief Accounts Officer Rajesh Goyal.

According to the committee, the sustained harassment pushed Balwant Singh into severe mental distress. On May 4, he allegedly jumped from the eighth floor of the Haryana Secretariat and died by suicide.

The case has now become a major issue in Jhajjar district, with community leaders and the deceased officer's family demanding accountability, financial relief, and government intervention. With a one-month deadline now set, the administration faces mounting pressure to act before the matter escalates into a broader public movement.
